Refresh university profiles on FindAMasters.com to modernise the design, increase engagement and ensure consistency.

Brief

  • Redesign the existing university profiles to better engage prospective students.
  • Ensure consistency across the profiles to make it easier for prospective students to find key information.
  • Encourage universities who do not currently have a profile to purchase a university profile on FindAMasters.com
  • Introduce profiles for departments, schools and faculties to allow them to also showcase their offering.

The problem

The original university profiles on FindAMasters.com were outdated, text heavy and varied significantly in structure and content. This created an inconsistent user experience for prospective students and made it harder for them to compare universities to get a clear first impression.

  • Profiles lacked visual impact, with few images and videos - media also displayed poorly on mobile.
  • Important information such as open days and course listings were difficult to find.
  • Inconsistent layouts across different profiles led to user confusion.
  • University partners wanted greater flexibility to showcase their brand, whilst stakeholders wanted limited flexibility to ensure brand consistency.

Research

Existing FindAMasters Profiles
  • Performed a thorough audit of current university profiles to identify inconsistencies in layout, content presentation, and user engagement.
  • Noted that profiles were text-heavy with minimal visual elements, leading to a lack of engagement and difficulty in information retrieval.
Competitor Analysis
  • Analysed profiles on similar platforms such as MastersPortal and Prospects to benchmark design standards and user experience.
  • Identified best practices in showcasing university information, including the use of multimedia, clear calls-to-action, and structured content.
User Feedback
  • Gathered insights from prospective postgraduate students through surveys and interviews to understand their needs and preferences.
  • Discovered a strong desire for visually engaging profiles with easily accessible information on courses, open days, and university statistics.
Stakeholder Discussions
  • Engaged with internal teams including Sales, Client Services, SEO, and Tech to align on business objectives and technical feasibility.
  • Conducted a design sprint to collaboratively define goals, prioritise features, and establish a shared vision for the profile redesign.

Design process

Understanding the Brief & Planning
  • Collaborated with stakeholders to define key objectives: enhance visual appeal, standardise profile layouts, and improve user navigation.
  • Outlined content requirements and determined the hierarchy of information to ensure consistency and clarity across all profiles.

Wireframing
  • Developed low-fidelity wireframes in Figma to map out the structure and layout of the new profiles, focusing on user-friendly navigation.
  • Ensured integration of essential elements such as hero images, quick facts, featured programs, and upcoming events.

High Fidelity Prototyping
  • Created high-fidelity prototypes incorporating visual elements like imagery, typography, and color schemes to reflect the FindAMasters brand.
  • Designed responsive layouts to ensure optimal viewing experiences across various devices, particularly mobile.

  • Conducted usability testing sessions with prospective students to gather feedback on the prototypes' functionality and design.
