UniTasterDays event discounts & rewards

Project

Create a new section on the UniTasterDays website to allow schools and students to find incentives and perks when attending events and open days at universities.

Brief

  • Create a new section on the website that allows school students and schools to browse available incentives and rewards for attending university open days and events.
  • Ensure the incentives and rewards are easy to filter and understand.

The problem

Universities often have incentives and rewards available for schools and students to attend their open days and events; however, there is no central resource for them to view this information without visiting individual university websites.

  • There was no unified place for schools to browse incentives and rewards.
  • Discounts from universities were not discovered by schools
  • The absence of this on the UniTasterDays website created a missed opportunity to support schools and university partners

Matt was fantastic to work with on the UniTasterDays website refresh. From initial wireframes through to full implementation, he brought great ideas, took feedback on board and delivered a polished final product. His blend of design expertise and front end skills is seriously impressive.

Research

Existing UniTasterDays website
  • Reviewed the existing website, tone of voice and UI design to ensure the new section would be consistent with the website.
University websites offering event incentives
  • Explored how university websites display incentives such as travel bursaries.
  • Discovered this information was often hidden on open day pages and difficult for schools to find.
Stakeholder discussion
  • Discussed with stakeholders to understand the need for the new section on the website and their success criteria.
Focus group with school staff and students
  • Gained insight into how teachers and students currently find out about university events and what motivates them to attend.
  • Identified that they wanted a simple, consistent way to browse event incentives offered at local universities.
Research findings

After speaking to schools, students and stakeholders as well as reviewing university websites, I identified as series of patterns and opportunities.

  • Consistency is crucial, and need to ensure the new pages follow the same design as the current website.
  • Clear information Users wanted to know what the discount was and where it was available at a quick glance.
  • Search & filtering is important to ensure users find events near them.

Design process

1

Understanding the Brief and Planning
  • Worked closely with stakeholders to define what needed to be communicated.
    • What is the incentive?
    • Who is the incentive for?
  • I had to ensure the content and filters were structured around the above questions.

2

Wireframing
  • I created wireframes in Figma based on the existing website design.
  • I ensured the wireframes clearly stated where and what the incentive was.
  • I also had to ensure the event incentives fit into the existing website, this included:
    • Displaying that event incentives were available on the search.
    • Linking event incentives to open days and events at universities.
    • Prominently displaying event incentives in the navigation and homepage.

3

High Fidelity Prototyping
  • I created high fidelity prototypes in Figma of the new incentives and rewards section of the website.
  • The prototypes were created mobile first and followed the websites current design.

4

Feedback & Monitoring
  • Teachers and students were asked for feedback on the prototypes and to ensure they were able to find the incentives they were looking for.
  • Hotjar was used to monitor the performance of the new event incentives to ensure users were finding the relevant rewards.
